Caring for Your Polyurethane Floor Surface

Facts Regarding Your Polyurethane Floor Surface

Your new wood surface is a hard plastic, and DOES NOT require wax or any other type of protective coating. In fact, NEVER wax your floors.

Cleaning Advice for a Polyurethane Floor

Cleaning a polyurethane surface can be done by:

  • 1st vacuuming with a FLOOR BRUSH. Don’t use a hard plastic attachment because these are made of hard urethane that can scratch your new floor.
  • 2nd wiping the surface with products for "non- wax hardwood floors" or SLIGHTLY dampened a cloth or sponge with plain water. Do not soak floors with any product or water; instead, wipe dry with these. A spray bottle and a dry , clean, sponge mop work well for a light dusting. If anything other than water, we recommend using Polycare.

Tips for Preserving Your Polyurethane Floor

  • Be sure to use FLOOR PROTECTOR PADS made of a "felty" or softer than plastic material on all furniture, especially things that slide such as dining room chairs, etc.
  • Use a doormat or remove shoes to eliminate small rocks and sand from your and your guest’s feet. This type of gritty dirt will quickly make a new floor look old.

Will my wood floor dent?

Hardwood floors, as with all wood, are comprised of soft wood fibers and millions of cell structures. The density of these wood fibers technically makes one wood harder than another. All wood, however, will dent if something heavy is dropped on it. The spike end of a high heel shoe can also indent the surface of the wood because a 110 pound woman will exert 2000 pounds of pressure at the tip of the heel.

Touching Up Small Scratches

Touchups can be done with any "oil based" polyurethane. Clean the area and apply a light brushing of polyurethane.
